Synopsis

The Well of a Thousand Demons is a play by Maribel Carrasco, which was written just over 30 years ago. It represents a major breakthrough in children’s theatre in Mexico, and has been staged nationally and internationally as part of CONACULTA’s ‘best theater for children’ collection (1994 and 2001).

In 2018, the play was re-imagined by the author for Luna Morena. The new version, which retains the play’s original dramatic structure, sees the young heroine Jacinta travel into The Well and embark on a formative journey that transforms her view of life and the world around her.

Jacinta’s mission is to recover her jug, which holds the water of life. Through her quest, she discovers the importance of history, memory, family and social connections, and also the dangers of living without them. She learns that having strong roots is essential, not just for our own well-being, but also to make the best decisions and, ultimately, to restore some much-needed balance to the world.
